Mom will know she is special when she wears this unique antique brooch.
Fabulous and rare.... This is a antique Whitby Jet brooch with an original miniature watercolor of Chillon Castle on Lake Geneva, Switzerland painted for this brooch. Plus a bit of mystery - the paper used to paint the watercolor is an old piece of a Paris card or note.
Two antiques for one price - an original mini-watercolor and Jet brooch.
This original watercolor was painted at the Castle in the late 1800s. It is painted on the back of a very old calling card from Paris. There are 2 pieces, one has the watercolor on the back of it and the other is blank on one side with writing on the other. You can see part of the address and name... very interesting. See photos.
The brooch is Whitby Jet. It is carved with a hinged glass over the watercolor. The watercolor looks like it was made for it. The dimensions are perfect.
Excellent condition. Front is almost perfect. It is all black. The slight brown color on a few bits is due to the flash. Inside is black. The photo does not show the true color of the inside due to the flash. Back shows a very small amount of wear. To be expected for it's age.
Measures 2.75 inch long, 2 inch wide. Watercolor is 1.5 inch by 1.25 inches.
